Rugby League Fans Cause Stir in Tauranga Convoys

Tongan and Samoan rugby league fans created a spectacle in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui last weekend. Two convoys, comprising around 200 vehicles, raised concerns with police due to their behaviour on the roads.

The convoys featured loud external speakers and enthusiastic fans hanging out of car windows, adding to the lively atmosphere. However, this display of team spirit led to police monitoring the activities closely due to the potential risks posed to other road users.

While the passion of the fans is commendable, authorities are reminding everyone about the importance of safe driving. Fans can show their support without engaging in risky behaviours that jeopardise safety for themselves and others on the road.

It’s a reminder of how fervently sports can unite communities, yet it also highlights the fine line between celebration and safety. Police encourage fans to enjoy the events while adhering to road safety regulations.
