NZ Zookeeper Aids Europe's Rescue Bears in Germany

John Pickard, a former zookeeper from Wellington, is now working in Germany. He helps rescued bears learn to hibernate and regain their freedom.

Currently based in the German countryside, Pickard has taken on a unique role involving animal rescue. His job focuses on teaching bears how to hibernate, an essential skill for their survival.

These bears have been rehabilitated after being rescued from difficult circumstances. Pickard’s work plays an important part in their recovery and return to more natural behaviours.

His experience in animal care, developed during his time in New Zealand, has been valuable in this new environment. He continues to make a meaningful impact on these bears' lives.
