PM Luxon and Minister Peters to Attend Pacific Islands Forum

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters will represent New Zealand at the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting in Palau. The meeting aims to address complex challenges facing the Pacific region.

Mr Luxon stated that New Zealand seeks a Pacific region that is peaceful, prosperous, and resilient. He acknowledged that the Pacific faces increased challenges, including overseas conflicts and economic uncertainty, which require collaborative responses from Pacific nations.

Mr Peters emphasised the government's commitment to the Pacific as a key focus of its Foreign Policy Reset. He noted that for the first time, New Zealand has conducted high-level visits to all Pacific Islands Forum countries within a single term.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of engaging with Pacific leaders, as the country prepares to host the Forum next year. This engagement is vital to strengthen partnerships and achieve practical outcomes for the region.
