New Zealand's Cruise Season Kicks Off with 200,000 Passengers

New Zealand's cruise season has officially started, with close to 200,000 passengers expected this year. This influx is a significant boost for regional tourism, jobs, and businesses.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston welcomed the passengers aboard the Crown Princess as it docked in Auckland, marking the season's launch. She expressed optimism about the renewed confidence in the cruise sector after challenging years.

The government’s efforts to improve coordination between itself and the cruise industry have made New Zealand a more attractive destination for cruise lines. Upston noted the steps taken to ease access to the country for visitors.

Earlier this year, she attended the Seatrade convention in the United States, the largest cruise conference globally, and hosted a Cruise Forum to strengthen New Zealand's international standing in the cruise market. These initiatives are part of a long-term strategy to keep New Zealand among the top destinations for cruise tourism.
