Greymouth Library and Commercial Hub Opens

Greymouth has unveiled its new Library and commercial hub, marking an exciting development for the West Coast. Associate Regional Development Minister Mark Patterson attended the opening.

Mr Patterson described the facility as more than just a library; it is a multi-use space geared towards bringing the community together. He added that it aims to support local businesses while enhancing Greymouth’s appeal as a place to live, learn, and play.

The two-level structure features the new library on the top floor of the Richmond Quay development, named He Kupenga Mātauranga by local mana whenua Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Waewae. This name signifies the connections from the mountains to the sea and embodies the essence of the space.

The project received significant backing, including a $2 million grant from the Government’s Regional Strategic Partnership Fund, demonstrating ongoing support for Greymouth’s CBD redevelopment initiatives. The development promises to be a welcoming hub for both locals and visitors alike.
