Government funds $50m for West Coast critical minerals projects

Two critical minerals projects on the West Coast are set to receive significant government support. The funding aims to boost local mineral extraction and processing capabilities.

The Westland Mineral Sands project near Westport will receive $30 million to further its operations. This investment is part of the government's strategy to enhance the domestic supply of critical minerals.

Tāiko Critical Minerals in Barrytown will also benefit from government funding, receiving up to $20 million. These projects are expected to play a crucial role in New Zealand's resource management and economic growth.

The funding reflects the government's commitment to developing sustainable resources while creating jobs and supporting local communities.
