Samaritans Rescue Injured kārearea in Lake Tekapo

A heroic rescue of an injured kārearea has captured the heart of the Lake Tekapo community. The New Zealand falcon was discovered on State Highway 8 by local woman Emilie Marinissen.

Marinissen spotted the falcon a week ago and immediately sought help. With the assistance of passersby, they carefully moved the bird to a safe location. Local wildlife rescue groups were alerted, ensuring the kārearea received proper care.

The kārearea, known for its incredible flying skills, is an iconic species in New Zealand. Their protection is vital for maintaining the ecological balance in Aotearoa. Every effort made to save these birds contributes to the conservation of our unique wildlife.
