Katikati Community Patrol Seeks Business Support to Keep Running
Katikati's volunteer community patrol — described as the eyes and ears for police in the area — is calling on local businesses and the wider community to help fund its ongoing operations. After volunteer numbers dipped to 13 a few months ago, the group has recovered to a healthy team of 20, but rising running costs mean their bank account needs a boost.
Patrol spokesperson Sutherland said the group needs around $5,000 to $5,500 per year to keep operating. To manage rising fuel costs, the patrol has already had to shorten the length of its routes. The patrol vehicle is fitted with a police radio, allowing members to report incidents directly to NZ Police Communications as needed.
The patrol also carries an AED (automated external defibrillator) as part of its community safety work. Anyone wishing to support the patrol financially is encouraged to get in touch.
