Volunteers Showcase Called for Katikati Community Event

A special event celebrating National Volunteer Week will be held in Katikati on 17 June, running from 10am to 11.30am at The Arts Junction, 36 Main Road. Hosted by Volunteering Services and Katch Katikati, the Katichat event is designed to connect the public with local community organisations and non-profits.

Katch Katikati manager Jacqui Knight said there are 15 speaking slots available, and groups simply need to register and show up on the day ready to talk for around five minutes about what their organisation does and what volunteering with them involves. Groups already signed up include Katikati Open Air Art, Katikati Lions, the coffin club, St John, the food bank, the repair café, and fire and emergency services.

Knight said volunteerism is a real strength of Katikati, particularly given the high proportion of active retirees keen to stay engaged in community life. Anyone wanting to register their group should phone 07 549 5250 or email info@katchkatikati.org.nz. Attendance at the event is free but pre-registration is required for catering purposes.
