String of burglaries and thefts hits Katikati area in May
A wave of property crimes struck the Katikati district during the first two weeks of May, with police recording several burglaries and thefts across the area. Items taken included a large Prescott trailer stolen from Pahoia Beach Road, a Webber barbecue taken from a Heron Street property in Katikati, and a substantial diesel tank removed from a barn on Crawford Road, Minden.
Thieves also struck a Tanners Point Road address, where a male offender was disturbed on the property, and scrap metal was taken from a Boyd Road property in Katikati. Earlier in the month, a light bar was stolen from a vehicle parked at the Dave Hume Pools on Carisbrooke Street.
Police also dealt with a marketplace deposit scam in the area, where a seller was asked for a deposit on an item they were selling. Once the deposit was paid, the scammer demanded more money before cutting off contact entirely. Sergeant Steve Hindmarsh advised buyers against putting down deposits before actually receiving goods.
