Katikati arrests: stolen Volvo pursuit, bail breaches and meat theft
Police made a number of arrests and apprehensions across the Katikati and western Bay of Plenty area during May, dealing with everything from a dramatic stolen-vehicle pursuit to repeat bail breaches and supermarket theft.
Two Katikati women were arrested after a stolen Volvo was spotted on Lindermann Road on the morning of 12 May. The vehicle initially evaded officers but multiple members of the public reported it being driven dangerously from Te Puna into Tauranga. Police eventually deployed road spikes to stop the car. A 29-year-old Katikati woman faced charges including reckless driving, receiving stolen property, three counts of unlawfully interfering with motor vehicles, and possession of methamphetamine. A 25-year-old Katikati woman was charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
Separately, an 18-year-old Tanners Point man was arrested for burglary of a Tanners Point address on 11 May, and a 34-year-old Katikati man was apprehended the following day in connection with two cases of meat theft from the Katikati 4Square. A 43-year-old Katikati man was also arrested for breaching his bail conditions, and a 34-year-old Katikati man was taken in on a warrant after failing to appear in court.
