New Sculpture Celebrates Local Environmental Heritage

Ōmokoroa has unveiled a striking new sculpture at the Wāhi ō Waipapa Wetland, designed to connect the community with the local environment. Crafted by artist Que Bidois, the sculpture represents Pirirākau's enduring relationship with the land and water.

The sculpture, titled Te Hokinga Mai o te Kākā, serves as a reminder of the vital role water plays in the ecosystem. It features embedded elements that celebrate local biodiversity, enhancing the wetland's purpose while inviting visitors to reflect on their role as kaitiaki (guardians).

This development is part of broader efforts to improve urban landscaping while nurturing natural habitats, making it a unique spot for the community to gather and learn about local ecology.
