Hundreds turn out for Katikati's Anzac dawn service at war memorial

A large crowd gathered in the early-morning darkness at the Katikati War Memorial Hall on Saturday, 25 April, to mark Anzac Day. Young and old alike came together from 6am, with the service beginning with a short march by veterans and defence personnel.

A local speaker noted that the annual commemoration has been held every year since its establishment and now serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made across all theatres of war, right up to the present day. It was also noted that Anzacs — New Zealanders and Australians — have a distinct and enduring tradition of honouring their service together.
