Mayoral Relief Fund Aids Storm-Affected Families

The Western Bay of Plenty District Council has announced that over $205,000 has been distributed to families and businesses affected by January's severe weather. The Mayoral Relief Fund aims to offer immediate support for urgent needs.

The fund, bolstered by government and community donations, has assisted 36 households, with payments ranging significantly depending on need. Mayor James Denyer emphasized the ongoing recovery efforts and the complexities faced by those impacted.

With over 45 applications received, many recipients were left wanting, highlighting a greater need within the community. The council continues to explore further support options as recovery progresses.
