Bowentown's Tui Park playground set for community-shaped upgrade
The playground at Tui Park in Bowentown is getting a refresh, funded through Western Bay of Plenty District Council's long-term plan for 2024–34. The redesign was influenced by community feedback, with residents asking for a blend of active play and natural elements.
The upgraded space will include large swings, baby swings, a mini flying-fox style glider, a climbing frame, and natural play features such as logs, rocks, and balancing equipment. A boardwalk and ramp will improve accessibility, and a rock seating area will give tamariki a place to gather.
Council reserves and facilities manager Peter Wattson said playgrounds play a vital role in helping children build confidence, stay active, and connect with others. "This refresh will help ensure Tui Park continues to be a safe and welcoming place for the community," he said.
The work, being carried out by Tauranga-based CGC Landscapes, began last week and is expected to run through until May, weather permitting. For more information, visit yourplace.westernbay.govt.nz/tui-park.
