Multi-bay coastal clean-up to protect Kororā at Bowentown

The first event of Sustainable Backyards Month for the Western Bay of Plenty is a multi-bay coastal clean-up at Bowentown on Thursday, 5 March. Hosted by Envirohub Bay of Plenty, the Kororā Bowentown Bays Clean event runs from 10.30am to 1pm at Anzac Bay on Seaforth Road, with participants asked to meet at the main entrance.

Anzac Bay is home to a colony of endangered Kororā (little blue penguins). Volunteers will clean up Anzac Bay, Shelly Beach, and Cave Bay — at the previous event, 92kg of rubbish was removed. The free, whānau-friendly event provides gloves, and more information is available on the Sustainable Backyards Bay of Plenty Facebook page.
