Katikati kicks off 2026 Bike Series with urban rides for all ages

Around 50 cyclists of all ages took to the streets of Katikati on Saturday 21 February for the first event in the town's 2026 Bike Series, organised by KatchKatikati. Two urban rides were on offer: a 14 km guided route for more experienced riders, and a shorter 4 km family-friendly loop, both departing from 10am.

The aim of the series is to get locals enthusiastic about cycling in a relaxed and welcoming environment — whether they ride regularly or were simply curious to try. Participants had the chance to learn about Katikati's existing trail network and build confidence on their bikes. KatchKatikati volunteers Jacqui Knight and Kylie Watkins were on hand with urban cycle trail information and a barbecue for riders returning from the route.

The second event in the series was set for 28 February, offering a guided mountain biking adventure at Waitekohekohe Recreational Park, south of Katikati, with a kids' loop departing at 10.15am and an experienced guided track heading off at 10.40am. More information is available on the KatchKatikati Facebook page.
