Summer Shakespeare season extended after venue closure at Te Puna
A last-minute geotechnical closure at Te Puna Quarry Park has led to the Summer Shakespeare Tauranga Trust extending its 2026 season, with two more performances now on offer. The trust's production of As You Like It was originally scheduled at the quarry park amphitheatre through to 15 February, but was forced to relocate after the Western Bay of Plenty District Council closed part of the site to the public following a safety assessment.
The trust moved quickly and found a new home at Waimārino Adventure Park alongside the Wairoa River. Trust spokesperson Vikki Tibbits said while the new venue is smaller, the river provides a beautiful backdrop for the production. The season has been extended, with tickets now available for Friday 20 February and a closing night on Sunday 22 February.
Directed by Pascal Tibbits, the cast of 18 — with the youngest aged just 15 — brings the story of Rosalind and the Forest of Arden to life with wit, romance, and a touch of magic. Gates open at 5.30pm and the show starts at 6.30pm. There will be no door sales, but food and drink will be available, and a shuttle will run from the Waimārino car park to the stage. Tickets are available through Eventfinda.
