Police urge road care as Katikati schools return for 2026
Katikati police are reminding drivers and road users to take extra care now that schools have returned for the 2026 year. The college resumed classes last week, with the primary school following this week, meaning more children are walking and cycling to school and crossing local roads.
Sergeant Steve Hindmarsh noted that the recent quiet period had been welcome, particularly given the station had been running below full staff numbers, though those numbers are gradually recovering. He reminded residents to stay alert and look out for their neighbours — and to call 111 for incidents in progress or 105 for matters after the event.
Among recent police activity, a 33-year-old Katikati woman was arrested on 30 January for breaching bail conditions on Beach Road, and a 33-year-old Katikati man was stopped on 2 February and charged with driving with excess breath alcohol.
