Katikati Bike Series brings two guided rides this February
KatchKatikati, in partnership with Katikati Trails Group and Waitekohekohe Recreational Park, has organised two cycling events as part of the 2026 Katikati Bike Series during National Bike Month. Event manager Kylie Watkins says the rides are designed to celebrate the local environment, encourage active and healthy lifestyles, and shine a light on the trail-building work happening behind the scenes.
The first event on Saturday, 21 February is a guided family bike ride around Katikati township, starting from the Dave Hume Pools car park on Carisbrooke Street. Riders can register from 10am with a gold coin donation. Experienced riders head off on a 14km urban route at 10.20am, while a 4km family-friendly option departs at 10.45am, welcoming kids and riders of all ages.
The second event on 28 February shifts to Waitekohekohe Recreational Park, just south of Katikati, for a guided mountain biking adventure in the Kaimai Mamaku Ranges. A kids' loop sets off at 10.15am as a warm-up option, with a more technical guided track to the summit departing at 10.40am. Both events wrap up with a free community barbecue where participants can learn about completed trails and future pathway proposals.
