Katikati's 101st A&P Show draws thousands to Uretara Domain
Thousands of people streamed through the gates of the Uretara Domain on Sunday for Katikati's 101st Agricultural and Pastoral Show, which ran from 9am to 3pm under clear blue skies. Dairy cattle, horses, sheep and donkeys delighted visitors of all ages, while the Axemen's Carnival and Beach Wrestling added a healthy dose of action and excitement to the day.
Military vehicles, vintage tractors and fun train rides drew in the machinery enthusiasts, and free old-fashioned games kept families entertained throughout the afternoon. The Home Industries hall was packed with displays, and a wide range of food kept the crowds well fed.
Notable highlights included a live wood-carving demonstration by Auckland's Wayne Trowe at the Axemen's arena, a first-place ribbon in the equestrian section going to 14-year-old Bailey Heerdegen from Tauranga with her horse Pebbles, and Te Puke dairy farmer Josh MacDonald showcasing his prize cow Jenna at the Dairy Cattle Competition. Katikati FourSquare's Adam Phimester and his son Cohen took out the best trade stand award for giving out free fruit and water to all attendees.
