Western Bay Museum to mark Te Rā o Waitangi with multicultural festival

Western Bay Museum is hosting a free family festival at Haiku Park on Waitangi Day, 6 February, from 11am to 3pm. The event, Te Rā o Waitangi Whānau Festival, will open with a mihi (official welcome) from kui and kaumātua of Ngāi Tamawharuia Te Rereatukahia Marae.

Museum manager Paula Gaelic says this year's line-up is bigger, bolder, and more diverse than before, featuring Māori, Indian, Pasifika, and Cook Islands performers alongside live music from cover albums. Activities including craft making, face painting, and large group games are planned. Gaelic encourages attendees to bring sun umbrellas, hats, chairs, and sunblock, and notes that a variety of food vendors will be on site. Updates are available via the Western Bay Museum Facebook page.
