Western Bay council seeks feedback on Waihī Beach medical centre proposal

Western Bay of Plenty District Council is asking the community to have their say on a proposal to lease part of the Beach Road Recreation Reserve at Waihī Beach to allow a new medical centre to be built. Primary Health Care Limited (PHCL), a charitable organisation that currently operates the Waihī Beach Medical Centre on Wilson Road, approached the council seeking the lease to meet the area's growing healthcare needs.

Council has agreed in principle to explore the proposal, which would require the reclassification of part of the reserve. Before any final decision is made, however, the council is keen to hear from the public. Feedback can be submitted online at yourplace.westernbay.govt.nz/proposed-new-waihi-beach-medical-centre, or in hard copy via feedback forms available at Te Ara Mātauranga – Waihī Beach Library and Community Hub.

The consultation closes at 11:59pm on Sunday 8 February 2026.
