Katikati gears up for two scarecrow competitions in February

Katikati is set to host not one but two scarecrow competitions next month, bringing a splash of rural creativity to the community. The Katikati A&P Show's Scarecrow Competition, running on 1 February, invites entries across three categories — children, adults, and community groups. Scarecrows can be any size or shape, provided they contain some straw. The overall winner will be decided by a people's choice vote.

Separately, Grow on Katikati (GOK) is hosting a free scarecrow-making workshop and competition on 14 February, with three categories: cultural, creative, and team effort. Spokesperson Jizzy Green, who has already built her own garden scarecrow named 'Josephine', is encouraging people to register soon so her team can prepare enough scarecrow frames in time.
