Waitangi Day Whānau Festival Coming to Katikati's Haiku Park
Western Bay Museum is organising a free Waitangi Day family festival at Haiku Park in Katikati on 6 February, running from 11am to 3pm. The Te Rā o Waitangi Whānau Festival will bring the community together with live music, cultural performances, food for sale, face painting, giant games, Pasifika lei making, poi making, and harakeke weaving.
The day will open with a mihi from kuia and kaumātua of Ngāi Tamawahariua, Te Rereātukahia Marae. Museum manager Paula Gaelic said the 2026 line-up is bigger, better, and bolder than previous years, describing it as a true community celebration.
Attendees are encouraged to bring sun umbrellas, picnic rugs, hats, chairs, and sunblock. Further details and updates are available on the Western Bay Museum Facebook page.
