Katikati Hit by String of Shed and Garage Break-Ins

Katikati residents are being urged to secure their outbuildings after a series of shed and garage burglaries struck the township in early December 2025. Police believe the crimes may be the work of a single offender operating at various times of day and night.

Among the incidents reported, an Echo chainsaw was stolen from a Busby Road property on 2–4 December, Christmas lights and silver cutlery were taken from a garage in Bransley Grove on 6 December, and two passports and a cricket bat were stolen from a Heron Crescent garage on 7 December. That same day, two Husqvarna chainsaws and a Shindaiwa chainsaw were taken from a shed on Clive Road. On 8 December, a person was disturbed breaking into a shed on Longmynd Drive at around 3.30am, with a petrol can stolen.

Sergeant Steve Hindmarsh is encouraging neighbours to look out for one another. Anyone who disturbs a burglar on their property should call 111 immediately; incidents that have already occurred can be reported by calling 105. Police ask that if you see something suspicious, you say something.
