Extra Kerbside Collections Planned for Waihī Beach Area This Summer
Residents in Waihī Beach, Bowentown, and Athenree can expect additional kerbside collection services over the summer period, on top of their regular collection days. The extra runs are designed to help households manage increased waste during the busy holiday season, particularly when visitors are staying.
A one-off extra glass collection is scheduled, and all bins — including glass, rubbish, and food scraps — will receive additional pickups throughout the period from late December until late January. Normal collection schedules are set to resume from the week beginning 2 February 2026. Residents are reminded that Christmas and New Year collections between Thursday 25 December and Sunday 28 December will be shifted one day later for those whose usual collection falls on a Thursday or Friday.
The pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) tag system remains in place, meaning residents only pay for the rubbish they produce. Tags must be looped through both handles of the red landfill bin for it to be emptied, and can be purchased at Te Ara Mātauranga – Waihī Beach Library and Service Centre, Waihī Beach Dairy, and Four Square Waihī Beach. Further information is available at kerbsidecollective.co.nz.
