'The Z-Nail Gang' Returns to Te Puke Cinema 11 Years After World Premiere
Te Puke's Capital Theatre will host two screenings this weekend of 'The Z-Nail Gang,' a locally-made film that premiered at the same cinema in July 2014. The feel-good action-comedy, based on anti-mining protests in the Coromandel during the 1980s, was shot around the Bay of Plenty in February-March 2014 with hundreds of volunteers from Te Puke, Pukehina, and Pongakawa contributing their time, money, and effort. Director Anton Steel and producer Kylie Della Barca Steel described the 2014 premiere as one of the most special nights of their lives, with more than 300 attending the world premiere. Steel credits the film with helping launch multiple people into working in the film industry and says the experience has informed his subsequent directing projects, including the documentary 'Taking Back Our Beach.'
