New Wharf for Matakana Island Opens

The new Panepane Wharf on Matakana Island officially opened earlier this month, promising safer access for island residents. About 60 locals celebrated its inauguration.

Constructed primarily from steel and aluminium, the $2.1 million structure replaces an aging timber wharf and is designed to last for decades. Local iwi played a vital role in ensuring the wharf reflects cultural values and community needs.
