Small Team Makes Big Impact with Rail Corridor Spring Clean
A dedicated team of seven volunteers recently spent a Sunday morning cleaning up a section of the rail corridor through Te Puke between the Bramble Bridge and Jocelyn Street. The cleanup effort, dubbed Track Attack, was coordinated by Craig Wallace, Keep Te Puke Beautiful co-ordinator, who identified the area as a priority since the group's formation in February.
The team hauled out approximately 30 bags of rubbish, two shopping trolleys, a bike frame, wheels, and other large items from the corridor. KiwiRail facilitated the cleanup on a morning when no trains were scheduled to use the tracks. Keep Te Puke Beautiful has also launched bumper stickers saying 'Don't be a tosser' to raise awareness and funds for the community beautification initiative.
