Ōmokoroa 'Sirens and Services' Day to Showcase Emergency Responders

Residents in Ōmokoroa will get a chance to meet the emergency services and volunteers who spring into action during a crisis, at a free community event on Saturday, 22 November. The Sirens and Services event, organised by the Ōmokoroa Community Emergency Hub Team, will be held at Western Avenue Sports Ground from 10am to 1pm.

Emergency service providers attending include the Ōmokoroa Volunteer Fire Brigade, Community Emergency Hub Team, Ōmokoroa Community Patrol, Police, Hato Hōne St John, Coastguard, Surf Life Saving New Zealand and Land Search and Rescue (LANDSAR).

Western Bay of Plenty District Council community resilience advisor Kurt Waugh will also be on site with example emergency grab bags and virtual reality headsets for people to try, giving a sense of what a tsunami or earthquake event might feel like. He will speak about Civil Defence and the role of Community Emergency Hubs, which are run by local volunteers with support and training from council.
