Wilderness Challenge Builds Confidence in Te Puke High School Students

A group of 12 Te Puke High School students recently returned from a 19-day Project K Wilderness Challenge based at the Hillary Outdoors Centre, which included canoeing, hiking, camping, and kayaking. Student Jodi Deacon reported feeling mentally stronger after completing the challenge, particularly benefiting from the five-day canoe trip along the Whanganui River and team-building activities. The program featured a mentorship component where each student was paired with a mentor for the duration, culminating in a graduation ceremony where students reflected on their experiences and personal growth through one of the most challenging experiences of their lives.
