Katikati Basketball Club Eyes Comeback After Decade Away

A group of Katikati residents, including Sheanna Chadwick and Maddy Kilford, are working to revive the Katikati Basketball Club, which folded roughly ten years ago. The pair say that now they both have full-time jobs and more capacity, they want to give something back to the community by getting the club off the ground again.

For the current school term they have secured use of the Katikati College Action Centre for three trial sessions each week. Wednesday evenings feature an adults' scrimmage from 6.30pm, open to anyone aged 18 and over, with a $2 entry fee and no need to register in advance. Thursday evenings run a free girls' basketball session for Year 6–12 students from 5pm to 6.30pm, welcoming all skill levels. On Fridays, a 3×3 boys' competition for Years 5–13 is held from 3.30pm to 7.30pm, with a $10 entry cost.

Chadwick said the three groups were initiated this term on a trial basis. Organisers plan to gauge interest — particularly from the girls' sessions — before deciding whether to register a formal team for next year.
