Whitebaiters Encouraged to Protect Local Flood Infrastructure

As the whitebaiting season kicks off, the Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council is reminding fishers to safeguard flood protection structures while enjoying this traditional activity.

Dan Batten from the council highlights the importance of not interfering with floodgates and culverts, as these structures play a critical role during heavy rainfall. Fishers are encouraged to use designated access tracks and respect landowner permissions to preserve the environment.

The whitebaiting season runs until October 30 with restrictions on fishing hours, making compliance essential for both legal fishing and environmental conservation.
