Rangiuru School Welcomes Return of Historic 1920s Trophy

Rangiuru School has received a remarkable gift—a trophy more than 100 years old that was originally presented to the school's first teacher, Vida Billing, in December 1920. The trophy was returned by Sheryl Clark, who discovered it while going through her great-aunt's belongings stored in Australia. Clark researched the cup's history and learned of her great-aunt's connection to Rangiuru School.

Principal Hannah Mortimore said the school plans to make it an annual award for arts and crafts, honoring Billing's legacy. Clark is also sending artwork pieces from her great-aunt to the school. While the cup is tarnished and worn, the school decided to preserve it as-is to maintain its integrity and historical significance.
