Grow On Katikati Seeks Gardening Buddy for Fairview Rd Plot
A Katikati food-growing initiative is on the lookout for a family or individual keen to partner with a local landowner, share the mahi, and enjoy the harvest together. Grow On Katikati (GOK), which has been fostering food resilience in the community since 2020, says Katikati resident Barbara Green has a large vegetable garden on Fairview Road and is looking for a gardening buddy to grow kai alongside her and another grower.
GOK spokesperson Jizzy Green explained that collaborative gardening matches people who have more land than they can manage with those who have the energy and enthusiasm to grow but lack space of their own. The pair share the workload and the harvest. Four successful collaborative gardens have already grown out of the programme over the years.
Beyond collaborative gardening, GOK runs a monthly Crop Swap on the first Saturday of each month beside the Katikati Community Centre, where people bring surplus produce and go home with something new. The group also offers seeds, seedlings, skills workshops, and a Seedlings Club for children.
Anyone interested in pairing with Barbara Green or registering their interest in collaborative gardening can email growonkatikati@gmail.com.
