Te Puke Primary Students Engage in Community Service Through Future Force Programme
Students from Te Puke Primary School's Year 5-6 Future Force team have been learning about community service and putting their knowledge into practice. The programme involved a week of activities where students performed at early learning centres Giggles and 4 Woods, and visited rest homes Glynavon and Carter House. They also conducted a can drive to collect non-perishable food for The Hub Te Puke's foodbank and completed a litter collection.
Associate principal and Future Force team leader Mike Douglas explained the initiative demonstrates the school's values of manaakitanga (care, respect, generosity and kindness) and kotahitanga (togetherness). "As teachers, we've noticed that kids have a natural inclination towards helping, so we wanted them to take that a little bit further and take it to the community," said Douglas. Students prepared for the activities by writing letters, designing flyers and posters, and learning to create influential social media content including hashtags to promote positivity in the digital world.
