Katikati Marks 150 Years With Vehicle Parade Through Town

Katikati is celebrating 150 years since the arrival of the Ulster Irish settlers with a vintage vehicle parade through the town centre this weekend. Classic, veteran and vintage vehicles — including a 1930 Ford AA pick-up truck owned by local resident Doug Brown — will muster at the rugby club from 9am before the parade kicks off at 10am from Moore Park.

The procession will wind through Middlebrook Drive, Carisbrooke Street, Beach Road and into Talisman Drive, where vehicles will park near the new Town Square beside the library. Organisers say they are unsure of exact numbers but expect anything from 30 vehicles upward.

Spectators are encouraged to line the parade route to take in the vehicles, then head to the Town Square where free entertainment will be on offer as part of the wider 150th-anniversary celebrations running across the weekend.
