Six Candidates Contest Four Seats on Maketū Community Board
Six people are contesting the four available seats on the Maketū Community Board. Te Puke News conducted interviews with candidates Sue Elliot, Weina Moko, Stephan Simpson, Cecil (Moki) Thomas, Leni (Beau) Walters, and Aleisha Waterhouse to learn about their backgrounds and priorities for the community.
Key issues raised by candidates include climate change mitigation in low-lying areas, infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, flooding prevention, road safety, and proper footpaths and kerbing. Candidates emphasized the importance of community transparency around council maintenance schedules and ensuring ongoing maintenance of roads and other infrastructure. Several candidates highlighted their commitment to advocating for Maketū residents at the council level and ensuring community concerns are heard in planning decisions.
