Daffodil Day 2025: Katikati Bulbs Growing for Cancer Fundraiser
More than 2,000 daffodil bulbs have been planted alongside State Highway 2 near Katikati, with organisers hoping they will bloom in time for Daffodil Day on 29 August. The flowers will be sold at four locations around town, with proceeds supporting the Waikato/Bay of Plenty branch of the Cancer Society.
In the 2024/2025 financial year, the Cancer Society's Waikato/Bay of Plenty branch supported more than 37,000 clients through accommodation, transport, supportive care and ancillary care. Last year's Daffodil Day raised $252,583 for local and national cancer research.
Leading the fundraising effort in Katikati is area coordinator Glennis Sims, alongside Jill Noble — who donated a section of her garden to grow the bulbs — and fellow coordinator Monique Amor. The trio are encouraging Katikati residents to buy blooms on 29 August or donate online at daffodilday.org.nz.
