Waihī Beach Library Showcases Local Weaving Art
Visitors to the new Te Ara Mātauranga library in Waihī Beach are welcomed with a stunning harakeke weaving. Created by local weaver Marino Magee, the piece carries a strong environmental message for the community.
The artwork, titled 'Ngā Tikanga o te Taiao', embodies traditional Māori values and encourages guardianship of the environment. Magee, who grew up nearby, drew inspiration from their upbringing and traditional practices. The weaving illustrates the interconnectedness of people and nature, aiming to inspire future generations in sustainable practices.
