Katikati 150th Celebrations to Feature Vintage Vehicles and Homestead Fair
Katikati's 150th anniversary celebrations will include a fair at the historic Athenree Homestead on Athenree Road, off State Highway 2, running from 10.30am to 2.30pm. The homestead has strong connections to the town's founding story — it was the home of Hugh Stewart, brother of settlement founder George Vesey Stewart, and Hugh's wife Adela, who arrived in New Zealand in 1878 with their seven children.
One of the highlights of the weekend programme will be a display tracing the evolution of vehicles and transport, from Clydesdale horses and vintage cars through to modern vehicles. Organisers say they want to capture the story of improvement over time. At 11am at the memorial hall, the public will also be able to watch a display of dance and music, though numbers inside the hall are capped at 400 and free tickets will be required for that event.
All events are free to attend, but those held inside the memorial hall require registered free tickets. For more information or to register, visit https://katikati150celebration.co.nz.
