Western Bay of Plenty Rates Set to Increase

Western Bay of Plenty District Council has approved an 8.92% increase in rates for 2025/2026, surpassing the previously proposed 7.42%. Homeowners can expect an increase between $114 to $206 in their rates bills.

Mistakes made in the budgeting process led to the higher rates adjustment. The council aims to rebuild its rates reserve while managing increased costs from debt and new projects.

Councillors discussed the need for a more sustainable financial model going forward, citing challenging economic conditions for many residents. Projects slated for the new budget include road upgrades in Te Puke and critical community facilities.
