Katikati Red Cross Seeks Disaster Support Volunteers

The Katikati branch of the New Zealand Red Cross is looking for more volunteers to join its newly established Disaster Welfare and Support Team. This team plays a crucial role during emergencies, providing assistance both locally and nationwide.

Branch president Phil Parker emphasised the importance of building the team, aiming for 15-20 trained members to adequately respond to large-scale emergencies. Training includes emergency management and psychosocial support skills.

With recent disasters highlighting the need for readiness, the Red Cross encourages interested locals aged 16 and above to join this vital initiative. Volunteers will gain valuable skills and contribute significantly to community resilience.
