Katikati Stags Fall Short in Semi-Final but Off-Season Events Lined Up

The Katikati Rugby & Sports Club has wrapped up its 2025 season after the Stags narrowly missed out at the semi-final stage, going down 27–37 to the Arataki Makos at Arataki Park on 21 June. Despite the loss, it was a spirited performance from the Stags, who clawed back strongly after the Makos scored three quick tries in the opening 20 minutes. The Katikati side finished with five tries of their own, to Baylie Peckham (two), Logan Ward, Lou Mokofisi, and Polutele Tavite, with conversions from Willy Varley and Liti Uilou.

A highlight of the day was the travelling Katikati support, which reportedly outnumbered the home crowd and created a lively atmosphere throughout the match. Coach Quinton Landman thanked everyone who contributed to the season — players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who kept things running on and off the field.

With the season done, the club is turning its attention to an active off-season programme. School holiday Touch Rugby Skills and Drills sessions for tamariki aged six to 12 are being held at Moore Park on 3 and 9 July from 9am to 1pm, costing $25 per player — no rugby boots required. A combined Rugby and Netball Senior prizegiving is set for Saturday 2 August from 6pm at the club, with tickets at $30 each. A Community Summer Touch Tournament and a Stags Muster are also in the pipeline.
