Pongakawa School Quiz Night Raises $60,000 for School Improvements

Pongakawa School's annual quiz night has cemented its place as a highlight on the community calendar. Held on June 7, the 'Once Upon a Legend' themed extravaganza brought Greek gods, Barbies, 1990s icons, musical greats and fairy-tale favourites together for an evening of epic fun and fundraising. Costumes were spectacular, with entire tables transforming into Disney casts and 1990s glam squads, creating an electric atmosphere with buzzing quiz competitions and enchanting decorations that transformed the venue into a storybook wonderland.

Guests enjoyed a fairy-tale-inspired three-course feast, beginning with a Snow White-themed picnic basket of cheeses and fruits, followed by Cinderella's pumpkin soup with golden garlic croutons, and a rich Wild Bambi Bourguignon with dreamy desserts. The night featured a live auction and, for the first time, a digital silent auction using the GalaBid platform. The event raised approximately $60,000 in profit—exceeding last year's total by about $10,000. Funds will support much-needed school maintenance and the creation of more shaded and all-weather outdoor areas for better student protection.
