Katikati Community Gathers for Matariki Celebrations

Katikati is gearing up for the annual Matariki celebration, highlighting unity among its residents. Events will take place on the evening of June 19 and the dawn of June 20.

Te Rereatukahia Marae will host the ‘Reading of the Stars’ event at 5pm tonight, featuring Ngairo Eruera and Haimona Brown. Participants of all backgrounds are invited to learn about the star cluster, Pleiades, which signifies the Māori New Year.

The community is also invited to a dawn service at 5:30am on June 20 at Te Whareorahi Reserve, where attendees can gather to observe Matariki rising. A free park-and-ride service will be available from Katikati Primary School to the reserve.
