Hume Fun Run/Walk Returns to Katikati on 5 July 2025
Following an outstanding response last year, the Hume Fun Run/Walk is back for 2025, with the free community event scheduled for Saturday 5 July — rain or shine. Local food packaging company Hume Pack-N-Cool originally launched the event to mark its 40th anniversary and give something back to the Katikati community that has supported it over the decades. More than 400 people of all ages and abilities took part in 2024, with a sea of blue making their way through the town's streets.
This year, participants can again choose between 5 km and 10 km courses, both of which wind through George Vesey Stewart Park and along the KatiKaiway Reserve pathways. The 10 km route features a new section along Beach Rd and loops around the Tamawhariua Reserve foreshore walkway, taking runners past kiwifruit orchards and the Hume Pack-N-Cool site, where supporters will be on hand to cheer everyone on.
People heading along are encouraged to bring a koha for the Katikati Christian Foodbank, which distributes around 30 food parcels a week — feeding roughly 92 people across the community. The foodbank spends at least $1000 a week to keep its shelves stocked, relying on both monetary donations and contributions of groceries and produce. Registration for the free event is open at humepack.co.nz/fun-run.
