Pink breakfast at Katikati Community Centre raises breast cancer funds
A sea of pink descended on the Katikati Community Centre on Friday, 30 May, when more than 40 people turned out for a charity breakfast in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation of New Zealand. Guests arrived in pink ribbons, hats, shirts, skirts, scarves and more, creating a vibrant atmosphere from 8am to 10am.
Community centre staff Sonya Mischewski, Lucy Valley and Sjaan Rounds cooked up pancakes and croissants with all the trimmings, while colleagues and volunteers waited tables, ran an old-fashioned bake sale, sold raffle tickets across four separate raffles, and staffed a donation station. Breakfasts were priced at $10 each.
Staff from Merivale Community Centre also made the trip to Katikati to show solidarity with a fellow centre's fundraising effort. The event aimed to raise as much money as possible for the national breast cancer charity.
