Te Puke Firefighter Mark Deacon Reflects on 10 Years of Service
Te Puke Volunteer Fire Brigade member Mark Deacon has completed 10 years of service with the brigade. Deacon, a self-employed builder, joined the brigade inspired by friend Blair Reeve and his passion for helping people and serving the community.
Deacon's proudest moment came when he was able to assist a man who collapsed overseas, performing CPR that may have saved the man's life. Among his memorable callouts was rescuing ducklings from a drain and responding to a car that took out 12 power poles. Outside of his firefighting duties, Deacon enjoys watching sports, helping with his boy's rugby team, and spending time at the lake.
